Xbox Game Pass is having one of those weeks where deciding what to play could prove more difficult than actually finding something worthwhile.
From a retro-inspired Marvel beat ’em up to atmospheric sci-fi horror and the return of a legendary ninja, five games are joining the service across Xbox consoles, PC, cloud and handheld.
Several of this week’s additions are also expanding their availability to Game Pass Premium, while Ultimate and PC Game Pass subscribers have more substantial day-one arrivals to look forward to.
Marvel Super Heroes And Otherworldly Adventures
The first major arrival is Marvel Cosmic Invasion, which joins Game Pass today across Cloud, Xbox Series X|S, handheld and PC. The game is now available through Game Pass Premium, while also joining Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass.
Developed by Tribute Games and published by Dotemu, this side-scrolling beat ’em up brings together 15 playable Marvel characters, including Spider-Man, Wolverine, Captain America, Storm, Iron Man, Rocket Raccoon and Silver Surfer.
Its Cosmic Swap system allows players to select two heroes for each stage and switch between them during combat. With local and online multiplayer, plus drop-in/drop-out support, it looks designed to deliver some classic co-operative superhero action.
Also arriving as we type is Planet of Lana II, available through Cloud, Xbox Series X|S, handheld and PC. The cinematic puzzle-platformer follows Lana and her companion Mui through a hand-painted world where nature and technology are increasingly at odds.
The sequel offers new movement abilities over the already excellent original Planet of Lana, environmental puzzles and a story exploring companionship, responsibility and the consequences of progress. The adventure is expected to take around six to eight hours to complete and is designed to welcome newcomers as well as returning players.
Horror, Racing And A Little Bit Of Mayhem
For those looking for something considerably darker, Routine also lands across Cloud, console, handheld and PC.
Set on an abandoned lunar base inspired by an 1980s vision of the future, this first-person sci-fi horror game puts exploration and survival at its core. There are no waypoint markers, meaning players must pay close attention to their surroundings while investigating what happened to the station.
The Cosmonaut Assistance Tool is central to progression, helping players access terminals, navigate the base and identify clues while attempting to survive unknown threats.
If horror isn’t your thing, Ultimate Sheep Raccoon offers a rather more chaotic alternative. The bike-racing party game arrives on Cloud, console and PC, supporting up to eight players locally, online and across platforms.
Players build obstacle courses filled with ramps, traps and hazards before racing through them. Expect jetpacks, parachutes, honey traps, spinning machinery and plenty of opportunities for friendships to be tested.
Ninja Gaiden 4 Arrives On Game Pass Premium
The biggest arrival of the week comes on September 17th, when Ninja Gaiden 4 joins the Premium tier, alongside Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass.
Available through Cloud, Xbox Series X|S, handheld and PC, the latest entry combines Team NINJA’s fast-paced combat philosophy with the stylish action associated with PlatinumGames.
Players take control of young ninja Yakumo as he battles cybernetic soldiers and supernatural enemies across a near-future Tokyo consumed by an ancient curse. Legendary ninja Ryu Hayabusa also returns, bringing familiar techniques alongside new combat options.
The game introduces Bloodbind Ninjutsu, allowing weapons to transform and unleash devastating attacks, while classic techniques such as the Izuna Drop and Flying Swallow remain part of the experience.
For experienced action fans, the emphasis is on precision, speed and mastering the combat system. Newcomers, meanwhile, can expect a modernised entry point into one of gaming’s most demanding hack-and-slash franchises.
RuneScape: Dragonwilds Already Joined The Line-Up
A quick reminder that RuneScape: Dragonwilds arrived yesterday (September 15th) for Cloud, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
The survival crafting adventure is already available through Game Pass, meaning subscribers can get started before the rest of this week’s additions have even finished arriving.
With Marvel superheroes, a new puzzle adventure, sci-fi horror, multiplayer racing and Ninja Gaiden 4 all featuring in the same week, Game Pass is offering a particularly broad selection of experiences. Whether you’re looking for cooperative chaos, a quieter narrative journey or an intense combat challenge, there should be something here to keep you occupied.
And following this little lot over the next couple of weeks are plenty more games – expect to be playing Well Dweller, Mad King Redemption, Keeper, and the small matter of Gears of War: E-Day soon.
