Multiple new entries in the Last of Us franchise are currently in development at Naughty Dog, according to studio co-president Neil Druckmann.
As reported by Inven Global, Druckmann told The Washington Post that the studio has several projects underway and intends to share more when the timing is appropriate.
ixbt.games noted that Druckmann stopped short of clarifying what shape those projects take. Mainline sequels, spin-offs, something else entirely — none of it is confirmed.

What Naughty Dog Is Currently Building
Naughty Dog's immediate focus is on completing its new IP, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, first revealed via trailer in December 2024.
The game is set in a cassette-futurism sci-fi world and follows a single protagonist in an action-adventure format. ixbt.games reports a 2026 release target for Intergalactic, though the vast majority of the game's details remain unannounced.
Much is still to show. Given how much Naughty Dog still has to reveal on Intergalactic, any detailed look at the Last of Us projects is unlikely to come before that game ships.
The Shadow of The Last of Us Online
The franchise's most recent chapter was a cancelled one. In December 2023, Naughty Dog announced it was scrapping The Last of Us Online, a multiplayer project that had been in development for several years.
The studio explained that pressing ahead would have required committing most of its resources to the title indefinitely, threatening its single-player pipeline, including Intergalactic.
That decision makes Druckmann's confirmation of multiple new projects notable. It signals that whatever is in the pipeline, Naughty Dog is treating them as compatible with its current workload rather than a resource drain.
Fan Reaction Is Mixed
Community responses to Druckmann's remarks have been divided. Inven Global observed that reactions across gaming forums and under Keighley's X post ranged from genuine excitement to wariness.
A portion of fans expressed concern about the creative direction following The Last of Us Part II's polarising reception. Not everyone is ready to celebrate.
Naughty Dog has not indicated a timeline for any formal announcement. Details on the new projects will surface when the studio decides the moment is right.
