GTA 6’s Netflix Extended Look Runs 26 Minutes and Was Shot on PlayStation 5

Rockstar Games' first major gameplay showcase for Grand Theft Auto VI arrives on Netflix today, and it's a substantial one.

The GTA 6: An Extended Look special clocks in at 26 minutes, according to Kotaku, with runtime details spotted by multiple users in the Netflix app ahead of the premiere.

Netflix confirmed in a press release that every frame in the special was drawn from in-game footage recorded on PlayStation 5. The streaming service described the showcase as presenting the biggest, most immersive evolution of the Grand Theft Auto series to date.

Whether that footage was captured on a base PS5 or a PS5 Pro remains unspecified, and Kotaku noted it had sought clarification from Rockstar Games on that point.

The Extended Look premieres exclusively on Netflix on 27 August at 3:00 PM ET (that's 5:00 AM AEST on 28 August). Six hours after the Netflix debut, the special becomes freely available on YouTube and other platforms.

A Single Long Reveal Instead of a Series

A 26-minute runtime is considerably longer than a standard game trailer drop.

Kotaku noted this approach differs from Rockstar's previous marketing strategy for titles like Max Payne 3 and Red Dead Redemption, where the studio released multiple shorter gameplay videos over time.

For GTA 6, it appears fans get one extended showcase ahead of the game's 19 November launch.

Creator Streaming Confusion

Content creators ran into some uncertainty around what they were and weren't allowed to stream.

Rockstar's initial statement on 26 August said creators could share reaction content once the Extended Look debuted on Netflix, which left many unclear on whether live co-streaming the actual footage was permitted. Confusion spread quickly online.

Rockstar later issued a clarification. Creators are free to livestream the Extended Look from 3:00 PM ET on 27 August, provided they follow platform-specific guidelines and do not repost the full video without commentary or context.

Kotaku reported that prior to the clarification, some creators even contacted Netflix support directly and were told they could not stream the reveal until it landed on YouTube.

What the Special Contains

Beyond the confirmed runtime and PS5 origin of the footage, the specific content of the Extended Look has not been detailed in advance. It represents the first official gameplay footage of Grand Theft Auto VI, which is due for release on 19 November.
