FFXIV's Top-300 Challenge Waits on Beastmaster Tuning

Square Enix has postponed the Season 1 ranking period for Crucible of the Unbroken in Final Fantasy XIV, citing ongoing balance work on the Beastmaster limited job, according to an announcement on the official Lodestone.

The subscription MMORPG's development team says it has received considerable feedback on Beastmaster's combat balance along with reports of issues tied to certain gameplay mechanics. A future post will confirm the actual start date once those adjustments land, but no specifics on what's changing have been shared yet.

Beastmaster launched as FFXIV's second limited job in patch 7.56, and Crucible of the Unbroken was built as its competitive solo endgame - a roguelike gauntlet where players who finish in the top 300 on their server each season earn an exclusive mount. That reward threshold has already drawn criticism from players who consider it unreasonable for a limited, level-50-capped job, and the delay has only sharpened calls in the community to scrap seasonal rankings entirely in favor of a flat clear-based reward.

This isn't the first post-launch fix Beastmaster has needed; Square Enix also had to address a separate Beastmaster bug shortly after the job went live, underscoring how much tuning a pet-collection job with roguelike scoring apparently still requires.

Players without the transforming car mount from the Final Fantasy XV crossover event get a consolation prize in the meantime: that event returns September 24th for anyone who missed it the first time, though it offers nothing new for those who already cleared it.

With no new ranking date set, the real test is whether Square Enix's balance changes address the exploit complaints substantial enough to make top-300 competition feel fair, or whether the format gets rethought before Season 1 ever starts.
